Opening Keynote: Nurturing Resilience: Finding the Personal Qualities and Social Supports We Need to Thrive (Even during a pandemic)
12:30 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. ET
Michael Ungar, Ph.D. World-renowned Resilience Expert
Throughout this fast-paced, story-filled presentation, Dr. Ungar will show that resilience is much more than just personal ruggedness in the face of adversity. It is instead a reflection of how well individuals, families, educators and employers work together to create opportunities for us to find our way to the resources we need for well-being while making those resources available in ways that we experience as meaningful. Based on Dr. Ungar's research around the world and his clinical practice, this presentation uses examples from his new book Change Your World: The Science of Resilience and the True Path to Success to explore how those who help others can avoid burnout and maintain their own career and life resilience when stressors pile up at home and on the job. Twelve factors that make us more resilient as adults will be discussed, along with practical tools participants can use to find the resources they need to cope successfully in culturally and contextually relevant ways, even during a pandemic. Dr. Ungar will also show how these same factors can help the people we work with achieve their life goals, and the value of continuing education as a resource for resilience. Finally, Dr. Ungar will talk about vicarious resilience, the positive impact we experience as helpers when we nurture resilience in others.

Inferential statistics can provide quantitative measurement of educational effectiveness of CPD activities. A t-test is an inferential statistic used to determine if there is a significant difference between means. To measure within-session learning of a CPD activity, for example, a t-test can be used to compare the means of a pre- and post-activity assessment. This skill-based, Ignite Presentation will provide a brief overview of the use of a t-test for hypothesis testing and, specifically, to determine whether a CPD activity has a meaningful effect on health care professionals' developing expertise.
TeamSTEPPS® for COVID-19: Skills-based training in an online educational activity
Presented by: Reema Mustafa, MPH, CHCP, Sr. Program Coordinator, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Deborah Y. Land, MPH, BSN, RN, CHCP
An essential skill of frontline Healthcare professionals is the effective utilization of teamwork and communication, which is shown to optimize patient safety. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic magnified the need for this critical skill in a rapidly changing health care environment. The UT Southwestern Office of Continuing Medical and Public Education collaborated with the High Reliability Team and Clinical Nurse Educator to develop an Internet Live Course focused on TeamSTEPPS®: an evidence-based set of teamwork tools developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). These tools are aimed at optimizing patient outcomes by improving communication and teamwork skills among health care professionals. This live internet CME activity addressed the relevance of these principles in caring for patients hospitalized due to COVID-19. This presentation will demonstrate how we engaged in this collaboration and adapted hands-on skills training from an in-situ simulation environment to an interactive webinar.

Diversity in CME: More Than a Buzzword
Presented by: Ann C. Lichti, CHCP, FACEHP, VP of Outcomes, Accreditation, and Compliance, Physicians' Education Resource, LLC
The word diversity is often interchanged with the word variety. In CME, that can mean many things - from educational formats and instructional design to faculty perspectives and learners' practice settings. In order to truly embrace demographic, experiential, and cognitive diversity in CME, we need to examine what our education will look like. Does this mean moving beyond selecting the leading researchers as faculty? Will we include perspectives of community-based practitioners at the podium? Can our viewpoints about diverse "formats" of education focus equally on instructional design and learner engagement? To truly move CME into the future, we need to challenge the current narrative together.
